Bud Abbott Jr.
Bud Abbott Jr., son of the straight-man from legendary comedy team Abbott & Costello, died Jan. 19 of an apparent heart attack in Valencia. He was 57.
Born in New York City and raised in the San Fernando Valley, Abbott’s career in the film industry began in the late 1950s, when his father helped land him a job on the Universal lot as a film technician.
During the early 1960s he segued to acting and appeared on several TV shows of the time, including “The Jack Benny Program” and “Bailey’s of Balboa.”
By the end of the decade however, Abbott was back behind the camera and, after a short stint at Technicolor, settled at Hollywood Film Enterprises as an optical cameraman. He held that position 22 years.
In 1988 he left the company and pursued various Abbott & Costello projects.
Later, he formed Abbott & Costello Enterprises with his sister and Lou Costello’s daughters.
He is survived by his daughter, Diana; a grandson; and a sister.
